Here aged 9, I'm showing Heidi
at Championship shows
Luckily I discovered that Angela Boyd of Wildbach kennels, a good friend of many years, was putting her bitch
Wildbach Black Magic to Pat Ideson’s Birkenwald Borris at Heathermark.
And in June 2010, I obtained Wildbach Black Spellbinder - “Star” as she is known to all those who fall under her spell.
I wanted a special memory of my Mother and couldn't have found a better one in that of Star, who has all the traditional look's and qualities of an original Birkenwald and actually has my Mother's first brood bitch of over 45yrs ago on the Dam's side...the start of the Birkenwald bloodlines Birkenwald Ivy Way Challenge, affectionately known as "Old Heidi".
Star’s pedigree also has some of my earlier Waldburg lines.
...The circle suddenly is complete!
Hello, I’m Christine and welcome to Waldburg GSP‘s.
I started the Waldburg kennel name back in the mid ‘70’s, breeding and showing alongside my Mother, the renowned and much respected Ann Gill (nee Spoors),
the driving force behind the Birkenwald kennel name.
After my Mother’s sudden and unexpected death in December 2008, we relocated to the
beautiful wild countryside of Mid Wales in 2010. I decided this was the ideal time to regain my
Waldburg kennel name and continue where I’d left off so many years ago.

A brief history...
I started the Waldburg Kennel name back in the mid 70’s while still at school, breeding and showing along side my Mother, the renowned and much respected Ann Spoors ( later Gill ) ... the driving force behind the Birkenwald kennel name.
My first bitch whom I made up to Show Champion was Sh.Ch. Birkenwald Mandel.

In 1978 Mandel had my D litter and one of her dog pups became Larry Wilks' (Arany Gundogs) first GSP and I was delighted when Larry made him up to Show Champion too! ... Sh.Ch.Waldburg Dino
(Ch. Wittekind Gregory ex Sh.Ch Birkenwald Mandel).
Knowing I would breed from Star I applied to the Kennel Club to regain my 'old' kennel name.
Back in the 70's you could either buy an affix from the KC for 'life' or a period of 20yrs
and not knowing where life's journey would be taking me after leaving school, I chose the 20 yrs option.
After my Mother's sudden and unexpected death in December 2008, I wanted a special memory of her and couldn't have found a better one in that of Star (Wildbach Black Spellbinder), who has all the traditional looks and qualities of an original Birkenwald and actually has my Mother's first brood bitch of over 45yrs ago on her Dam's side
...the start of the Birkenwald bloodlines… Birkenwald Ivy Way Challenge.
Star also has some of my earlier Waldburg breeding, including Waldburg Olga, the first solid black GSP to gain a Junior Warrant.

Just like my Mother, I too feel temperament is paramount when breeding,
as in most cases dogs live indoors as part of the family, whether they are sold for HPR work, Falconry, Showing or any other discipline.
Secondly I look for conformation which follows the breed standard giving a square outline with good bone, a good clean head and the ever important dark eyes.
My husband Les and I now live in the beautiful countryside of Mid Wales near Aberystwyth, where Star and her daughter Sol, enjoy plenty of exercise having a good time naturally working on the rough, wild mountain and moorland terrain, through mixed woodland and swimming in lakes and rivers of the Cambrian Mountains .... GSP heaven!
